BJJ

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was specifically developed to allow a smaller person to defeat a larger stronger person by utilizing leverage and technique. Our academy offers a complete Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Program taught by our Certified Instructors. Our program incorporates excellent technique, fitness, and live sparring.

Professor and the Team Spartan Staff

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is arguably one of the most effective and realistic forms of self-defense for men, women and children. By addressing the fact that most real fights end on the ground.

BJJ teaches students how to defend themselves from the ground and offers its participants the ability to defeat larger opponents through the application of highly effective submission techniques.

We train how to obtain and hold a dominant body position so that we may then apply chokes or joint locks on the major joints. (arms, legs, ankles, shoulders, etc.) In a self-defense situation, a choke could be used to render an opponent unconscious. A joint lock could be used to hyperextend or break an arm or other joint, causing pain and substantially reducing an attackers ability to continue their assault.

Class time is divided between drilling (learning and practicing new moves from an instructor) and rolling or grappling. (referred to as sparring in other martial arts) We spend a lot of time on the mat rolling so that students are prepared to both use the techniques on resisting opponents, and be capable of flowing between positions and techniques without stopping.
