We train like people used to train before exercise got dumbed down for the masses. We believe that the human body is meant to express itself in intelligent and powerful ways. We don’t use machines that trap your muscle into planes of movement that do not exist in the real world; we draw from a wide variety of body weight exercises and weightlifting movements and incorporate them in ways that make you stronger and more fit. Throughout my school years and young adult life I was always active. I stayed in good shape. I never really had to worry about my size. I knew I could fluctuate within a 10lb range without a problem. Then, six years ago I had my first child. After I gave birth to my son, I was shocked at how my body looked. It was November and with having a new baby I didn’t want to take him for walks or leave him with anyone.

Basically, I was sedentary for 4 months. Four months that went by in a wink. The next thing I knew I was trying on a size bigger in jeans and they were too tight! I tried my old ways off dropping weight, and they didn’t work. I became so depressed that I gave up. Mom’s can be fat, right? Three kids, six years, and 80 lbs later I was ready to take back my body. I tried fad diets, gyms, food delivery systems, pills; you name it.

One day I came across an advertisement for the Fighting Fit Fitness Bootcamp in Harker Heights. Truth be told, I was intimidated. I am not one for stepping out of my comfort zone. I thought, if it doesn’t kill me & I don’t die of embarrassment, I’ll try it for a week.

I have NEVER been happier with a work out. Jim (Mahan) is the coach that facilitates the bootcamp. Number one, he is awesome. He is a cheerleader, coach, teacher, and buddy rolled into one. He told me “everyone starts somewhere.” Truer words have never been spoken. I have made tremendous improvements over the past 4 weeks. I have increased my strength, range of motion, & stamina. I have decreased my waist, hips, thighs, & back pain.

I am excited to see what I can do next!

Extreme Self Defense

Your self defense training program should be designed to meet the needs of the mainstream adult market.

It should consist of simple, direct, quickly learned self defense moves that work for the majority of adults, regardless of size or previous training. Because the need to defend yourself can occur anytime, anywhere and with anyone; you need to be fit enough to fight with all your might, tooth and nail. Our self defense classes incorporate the same physical training as our Boot Camp in order to be strong, fast and hard to kill. Want to learn the same techniques that MMA fighters use in the ring and that Special Operations Forces use in battle? We can teach you do that.

We are your community. Once you become one of our athletes, you become family. We’re here to help you achieve your goals of losing pounds & inches, getting fitter & stronger, harder to attack and rob. We expect that as you get comfortable, you’ll help others do the same. This isn’t your normal training facility — you can’t be anonymous here. We’ll keep tabs on your progress and will help design your training and nutrition to achieve optimal results. Here, you matter. Want a supportive social setting for yourself and family? We can help you get that.

Goal Setting and Results Tracking

You’ll be expected to keep track of your workouts in a notebook when you sign up. All of our fitness workouts are completed for time, reps, or max weight, and the self defense classes recorded to keep the techniques in your words and tips. You’ll be able to track your progress and see yourself improving as you go — you’ll be amazed how much leaner, faster and stronger you’ll get when you stick with it. Want to know how much you are losing or how much stronger or faster you are? We offer body composition and fitness tests. We can show you that.

We cap our classes at 10 athletes per time slot in order to maintain a small instructor to athlete ratio so that we can maximize your performance in a shorter amount of time.

No, We are not. Without a doubt our self defense program combines actual combat effective techniques that I have taught to our Soldiers, Police Officers, SWAT and other special teams as well as Iraqi Army Special Forces and Iraqi Police.

Jim is the real deal. I live in Lawton/Ft. Sill,OK . I was raised in a military town and I have had the benefit of learning from a lot of instructors, because the transient nature of a military community. My name is Jim Mahan – I am a Self Defense Master Instructor and a Coach in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I am proud to be the owner and Head Coach of Combat Athletics, LLC  Self Defense and Fitness in Killeen / Harker Heights, Texas. I have trained and helped thousands of Soldiers of various nations learn self defense and combatives in order to save their lives and I have trained hundreds of students learn effective self defense and lose weight with our Self Defense and Fitness programs.

Our Fighting Fit2 Boot Camp™ is an innovative and exciting program combining outdoor fitness instruction with the same combat sport conditioning methods pro fighters use. This program will soon be offered for the first time in the Killeen / Harker Heights area.
